Pratt Institute Library (Brooklyn, NY)

Acquisitions Technician (June 2016—Present)

  • Performing original cataloging of the library’s zine collection, creating workflows and manuals to standardize zine cataloging in the future, creating an RDA based best practices cataloging manual for zines.
  • Collaborating with the Head of Technical Services and the Chair of Faculty to operate and expand ebook purchasing through GOBI, devising best practices for tracking purchases in our system, working with faculty to find ebooks that best meet the needs of an art and design school.
  • Working across departments to create and implement a patron driven acquisitions program, and manage its budget.
  • Applying local AARC2 cataloging guidelines, evaluating the quality of LCSH in records.
  • Copy cataloging in OCLC Connexion, evaluating and choosing the best record for the library’s needs, updating and maintaining records.
  • Communicating with library faculty and vendors, researching and procuring rare items from small publishers.
  • Tracking and invoice processing for over $200,000 in library acquisition funds using Sierra’s acquisitions functionality.
  • Serving on committees for hiring, and collection development in response to COVID-19, and the library’s diversity equity and inclusion task force.
  • Providing training and supervision for student workers as necessary.
  • Compiling statistics on acquisitions and expenditures for cross-departmental use.
