A background I’ve made for the game, it shows Reed’s library at night. There used to be a person in this picture!
What’s been going on with GRP lately? Well, I’ve had to scale back my expectations some. I’ve had a lot of big ideas for the game that aren’t compatible with my incredibly abbreviated timeline. My goal is still to launch a demo version of the game in December 2019, and that means scaling back on my own expectations of myself.
The game industry is known for crunch, but this game is all about my own little foray into doing things decently.
So, for the sake of transparency, here is what I wanted to have in December:
A functional game, which means a start page, menu pages that work, and credits, as well as all the middle bits.
A well edited script
Several minigames
Story triggers that were visual assets, rather than y/n questions
Several places where the player was asked questions and given a spot to answer, the goal being that whatever the user said was sent to a website, allowing for further data collection and analysis to deepen the project.
Avatars that look good
Fully done backgrounds
And here is some of the stuff that I know now will NOT be in the December launch:
Story triggers that were visual assets, rather than y/n questions
Questions that link to a website, probably.
Minigames, almost certainly.
Unsurprisingly, every step of the process has taken longer than I’d hoped. I still think it’s possible to launch something in December, at least a playable demo that I can use to apply for conferences.
